If you have never walked through an animal shelter and saw the sad faces that need homes, I do and don’t encourage you to do so. All of our animals have arrived because we have “just went to take a peek” at who was hanging out there. This little guy was because I can’t help but troll the Humane Society’s Facebook page. Meet Axel. He is a complete mutt and we are in love. He is around six years old. He has had a rough go at it, but when he was showing on the Humane Society’s Facebook page and was in foster care, he got me. We decided to try him overnight, on national dog day, to see how Abby (the cat who hate everyone, except for Emma, her feline sister), Emma, and Spock would welcome home. To no surprise, Spock and Emma welcomed him with open paws. Abby did too! That was the huge surprise! She didn’t hide or anything. Ten minutes after we walked in the door, Axel was on the floor in a full snore roaring deep sleep. He was home. We officially signed the papers to transfer ownership on 8/28/2017! He does come with a few things that need to be cared for. Unfortunately, because of his previous, irresponsible owners, he had to have a perineal hernia taken care of by surgery. Following that, he is on a restriction diet with increased exercise and a close monitor of his defecation habits.
He is so worth it. He is a calm, gentle giant who walks like a dream and just wants to be loved. Lucky for us, we have a lot of love to give and are willing to give it. We are committed to letting him live out the last of the best years he has with us. Welcome home, Axel. We love you so much already.
