The misconception right now on social media is “just jump in and do it!” and “if you can dream it, you can achieve it!”. And, while I think that those things are certainly true, the lost piece is what needs to be done behind the scenes to make it happen. Social media doesn’t show the struggles, the functionality piece of planning and putting in the hard work to make the dream come true. I’m not sure it even has the capability to do that. Because let’s be honest, what would we say when we have failed over and over, what do you really show?
The process of achieving a dream takes concept work through brainstorming, putting things on the calendar, and daily practice. Starting with the concept work through brainstorming or brain dumping. I start with the original idea in the middle and from there expand what I need to do to make it happen. I put the larger task in the box and underneath bullet point the smaller items that need attention. Following this process, I take the small items and put them as manageable tasks in my calendar. My calendar keeps me on track with realistic expectations on what I can and can’t fit into my days and weeks. Some weeks I have more time to work on bigger sections of the goal while others, I need to do the smaller tasks that still aide in me achieving and moving forward. Finally, I make it a daily practice. I make sure that I initially, before any of the above is completed, I put it in my Start Today Journal where I write it down as completed every day. Yes, every day. This encourages me to look at my calendar and complete a task that gets me closer. Reaching for big and lofty goals are not out of the question but it needs to be understood on how you can break them down into manageable tasks that will help you get achieve it. I find that I am so much better at putting the pen to the paper and letting my brain wonder and discover new ideas. My vision board is also a key player in visualizing my goals. I divide it into five areas of my life that I really want to work on. Finances (Saving/Being Debt Free), Personal Growth (Mind, Body, Soul), Travel, Home, and Career. These areas of my life are showcased on my vision board with inspiration from Pinterest, magazines, key words that encourage me and they allow me to see clearly and distinctly the direction I need to always keep my mind on. Every morning, when I am getting dressed, I am reminded of my goals and when I sit with my Start Today Journal and calendar, I am constantly focused on what needs to be achieved. This is hard work. Goals don’t come true unless you put in the work. When you see someone on social media, you have to understand that it took planning, processing and hard work to get it accomplished. You have to be willing to sacrifice your early mornings and late nights for putting in the work.
