After having a child, something happens to the body. The hips get wider, the skin gets softer and more delicate, and sometimes your insides do a magical turn of events. Of course, it is only subjective and not all women will experience such things. I’ve accepted that. I also say to you women who are unaffected by child birth….Praise you! Bless you! I envy you! Although, my turn of events didn’t happen right away, my body is like a fine wine, the pain got worse over time and the threshold of what I could withstand had become unbearable.
I never was the type to call in to work “that time of the month’, although for my attitude and co-worker’s sake, I probably should have a time, or two. Gradually, over the course of a few months I had some major issues and the final straw was when I didn’t feel well enough to go to work. The pain was excruciating and I was bent over with nothing to relieve it. With a few council sessions with my OB and my Nurse Practioner, we decided it would be best to do an Endometrial Ablation. Previously, I had something called Essure put into my body and so without jumping the gun and removing the fallopian tubes in debate on whether or not, the springs inside of me were actually causing the issues, the ablation was a much safer approach. With an Endometrial Ablation, there is no turning back on whether or not a person may think they want any more children. There is no hope for having an embryo attach to the uterine wall in the future in order to create a life. This was something that even until the hour before stepping into the procedure room was on my mind and been weighed out. Sure, I had decided long ago that Daniella was going to be my one and only. Additionally, I married a man that was content having no biological children of his own but there was still this “mother” instinct that was telling me that I should at least consider what I am doing. The Essure was a permanent choice of birth control, correct. However, there was not a loss cause for doing IVF and still having a baby that way. With the Ablation, there is no hope for that. So I prayed. I prayed to God that he would guide me in the way that was best for my body. I prayed that he keep my heavy heart in his hands to make a good sound decision. And I did. I made the decision to move forward with the procedure because I come from a family that believes that all children need love no matter where they come from. I am not a woman who needs to bear children from my body in order to love them as my own. With that, and a conversation with Andrew, we decided that if, in the future, we ever have an incline to have more than Daniella in our household, we will adopt. Right now, we don’t feel that it is a necessary thing to do BUT the option is always there and there are always babies and children who need homes. What better home that ours to open for them? Moving forward with the procedure, my mother drove me because, as with everything in my life, there was Daniella’s track meet on that day. Andrew was a trooper and took her to that and trusting ‘old mom got the exciting task of driving me to and from the procedure. The Endometrial Ablation is done in office and they say that you will feel like a Mack truck ran over you a few hours after it is complete then generally you are back to normal. I was like that for 24 hours. I did not feel well until the next morning. Following the procedure, there is a two week follow up. By then, you are either still bleeding from the procedure or not at all. Thankfully, I was the not at all. Matter of fact, since I had the procedure done, my migraines have completely gone away and so has my time of the month. I would highly encourage any woman who is experiencing high volumes of headaches, pain in excoriating measures during that time of the month, and are confident that they do not want to bear any more children, to consult your doctor on this procedure. It truly saved my everyday life. I am forever grateful to the wonderful team that helped me comfortably through this time. I have included some articles that are helpful in understanding what it is and how it affects your body. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. This is a overview of what the procedure is and here is the actual site of the procedure called NovaSure.
